A Tool for Playing in the Sand
Toys can easily get lost when creativity takes over. These wooden tools are designed to inspire bigger, freer play, allowing children to shape and explore on a larger scale. And if they happen to be left behind in nature, it’s no problem – the materials are biodegradable and can return to the earth.
Collaborator: Skogsstyrelsen Skåne and SPOK Material: Beech Exhibited at: Malmö Form & Design Center | Stockholm Furniture Fair | Southern Swedish Design Days (SSDD)
The project was part of PRO BOK – an initiative aimed at preserving and promoting the use of beech wood in Skåne. Beech wood was therefore a central focus in the brief we received at the start of the project. One of the requirements for the final product was that, at the end of its life cycle, it should be able to be placed back into nature and decompose completely without leaving any trace. This meant that adhesives and screws were excluded from use throughout the project.
Playing with Sand
No matter a person’s age or cognitive abilities, sand is an inviting material for play. Its unique texture and the endless possibilities for creativity and discovery can fascinate people both young and old.
